SOUND FIELD VR

Interactive Music Visualization in VR | 2017 (work in progress)

CLASSICAL MUSIC IN VIRTUAL REALITY

How about not only listening to music performed by MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra but experiencing and exploring it visually? The „Sound Field“ transforms classical concerts into a real time interactive music visualization in VR.

NEWEST TECHNOLOGY FOR THE OLDEST GERMAN RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHERTRA

The MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra (in German simply the MDR Sinfonieorchester), based in Leipzig, is one of the oldest Radio orchestras in the world and the oldest in Germany. It performs at the famous Gewandhaus in Leipzig.

A POETIC VR-EXPERIENCE

The mission of the project: to create a poetic VR-experience in which classical music is visualized and can be experienced and explored – a real-time interactive audio and visual VR-journey.

THE RESULT

Exquisitely performed classical music merged with data visualization  and the possibilities of high end technology like VR and 360° sound. A highly immersive, poetic and informative VR-installation.

The application enables to experience classical music in a 3-dimensional space in two different modes:
In the linear „Enjoy-Mode“ the animated music visualization can be enjoyed and explored simply by walking in the 3D-space.
In the interactive „Explore-Mode“ the animated music visualization can be enjoyed and explored by walking in the 3D-space, going back an forth in time and highlighting single instrument groups through simple and intuitive gestures.

Both modes exist side by side to easily, quickly and intuitively switch modes and enjoy the distinct benefits and possibilities of each mode.
